One of the things I’m passionate about is health and wellness, specifically when it comes to what I’m putting in my body and what I’m putting on my body. I’ve decided to do a once-a-month post highlighting a basic, all natural product that I’m currently loving.
This month, coconut oil is on my mind.
If you’ve at all been part of the health, beauty, lifestyle blog scene for the last two years you know all about the rise of coconut oil. It was a trend that started a string of health and beauty trends. Now, experts are touting the praises of all sorts of natural oils and substances and (wisely) major corporations have integrated the natural oils in everything from eyelash thickeners to body butters. And the trend still marches on. But let’s not forget our little friend that (might have) started it all. I recently purchased a new jar of coconut oil from Fresh Market (seriously, the jars of this stuff lasts forever!) and so far I’ve used it for everything from cooking popcorn to a moisturizer.
As a quick reminder I thought it would be good to break down this post by uses and benefits of the all purpose oil and why you should be embracing it and incorporating it into your lifestyle.
And because you can use it in so many applications, obviously, the health and beauty benefits almost reach legendary status. On the health side, coconut oil contains only good fats which actually can help your body release bad fat buildup and allow you to shed those pesky pounds that no amount of sporadic sit ups will eliminate. Check out this article for a great, scientifically-based article on it’s health benefits.
Hair moisturizer, hair mask, face moisturizer, acne remedy, natural sunscreen? Check yes to them all! A powerhouse in the beauty world, coconut oil is perfect to use by itself as hair masks and facial cleansers/ moisturizers or combined with other ingredients such as body butters, natural cleansers, even shaving cream! Check out these amazing, natural products containing coconut oil!
PRO TIP: When shopping for said coconut oil, it’s always best to look for labels that contains phrases like ‘virgin’ or ‘extra virgin’. This will allow you to purchase the least refined and thus most natural product on the market.
