Every now and again I find outfits that just work. They fit well, feel nice, don’t look terrible and inevitably I find myself reaching for it over and over (because sometimes I just forget how to choose outfits). This look is easily one of my favorites this fall. It was all inspired by the shirt.
A J.Crew Mercantile find that was thrifted at a favorite secondhand store, it’s more of a jacket than a shirt making it a (yes this is a real word) shacket.
It’s about as classic as you can get for a color combo – black and white with a touch of brown – and truly a versatile look. This fall day, for instance, we headed over to a favorite location of ours – Taylors Mill. It’s a massive revitalized textile mill that’s home to a restaurant, coffee, shop, artist studios, brewery, and a number of gorgeous wedding venues.
We actually got married here so it’s always a fun time to go back, wander the studios, sip a latte at Junto Coffee, and in our case explore their ever-expanding grounds.
This time we walked a few of their paved trails, climbed all over the coolest treehouse!, and wandered amongst other nooks and crannies enjoying rocking chairs and the fresh fall air. Honestly, it’s the perfect place to throw a party, have a wedding, hold a conference, or just walk the trails. All the info is on their website if you want to learn more about how to have a treehouse wedding – how cool would that be!
But coming back to the outfit, the real star of the show (and an excellent way to change up the look a bit) is a pair of elegant walking boots. I talked about my newfound love of Earth Shoes in this post and now they’re back with a refined ankle boot that is surprisingly perfect.
We walked all over the Southern Bleachery and Taylors Mill grounds and although they have a bit of a heel there was not a blister in sight – quite the feat for my feet.
They come in a beautiful chestnut color with a textured suede on the back and a soft leather in the front and I swear I have worn them every day since owning them. Buy your normal size on these guys because even with heavy socks you’ll have plenty of room.
