Easy At Home Coffee Recipes

in, Cooking

I love coffee as much as the next entrepreneur. My husband and I are slowly building our at-home coffee station. We have everything from a milk frother to pour overs; essentially everything except an espresso maker (because those are not cheap). And consider ourselves pretty coffee savvy when it comes to buying and storing quality beans. My go-to drink in coffee shops has always been a chai latte (I swear that’s what kept me healthy during the winter months); iced in the summer, hot in the winter. Vanilla lattes are a close second and a classic pour over or nitro brew rounds out the top three depending on my mood and what the shop is known for.

But with these specialty drinks comes a price tag that can make even the most dedicated coffee enthusiast wince at the end of the month. So I decided to take up learning some of the less complicated recipes at home. A few years ago I picked up this darling little recipe book at Anthro. Much to my delight, it’s filled with tons of drink ideas and recipes for refreshing coffee-based beverages.

Affogato | This delicious mix of coffee and ice cream is a fan favorite in the summer.

What You’ll Need:

  • Vanilla Ice Cream
  • Espresso (or strong brewed coffee)
  • Dark chocolate shavings

How to Make:

  • Drop a generous scoop of ice cream right into your glass
  • Add a shot of espresso or about 4 tablespoons of your strong brewed coffee
  • Top with dark chocolate shavings

Iced Latte | Delicious with or without flavoring. The iced version of this drink doesn’t require any special equipment.

What You’ll Need:

  • Strong-brewed coffee
  • Milk (or cream)
  • Vanilla (or your favorite) flavoring
  • If you’re feeling fancy: ice cube tray

How to Make:

  • Make a strong pot of coffee
  • If you have a little extra time, pour the cooled coffee into ice cube trays and wait until they’re frozen to enjoy your drink
  • Fill your glass about halfway with ice, half with coffee, and add a little milk to taste

Iced Mocha | A sweet (but not too sweet) and chocolate-y coffee drink perfect for late summer afternoons

What You’ll Need:

  • Strong brewed coffee
  • blender
  • Chocolate syrup
  • ice

How to Make:

  • For a stronger taste: freeze an ice cube tray of coffee overnight
  • Into your blender add the coffee, chocolate syrup, and ice
  • Blend until combined
  • Pour into a tall glass and serve with chocolate shavings and whipping cream

I love coffee in the summer, and it’s great to have these suggestions for cold drinks instead of hot. I make a lot of cold brew.

When I was growing up in Italy the Affogato was the coffee of choice in the Summer. Your article brought back many memories of dinners al fresco with friends 🙂
