While I'm quite aware it's mid-August and nowhere near fall weather, a cozy, rainy, cooler than average has me pining away over subtle fall home decor. My philosophy on decorating my home for the seasons (except Christmastime) has changed over the past few years.
While in years past I was much more of a maximalist for seasonal decor, I do try to keep things a bit more minimal and let the ever changing art of the scenes through my windows do a lot of the decorating for me. But we can't resist a little spruce here and there.
In fall clothing I have been hopelessly drawn to plaids and herringbones, cable knits and wool textures. In home decor, the same general rules apply with some notable additions: dried florals in warm, natural tones, cozy plaid throws, vintage prints, and brass accents. Our dark green built-in bookcases are dream to dress up in fall and winter and our brand new king bed from CB2 with it's leather headboard and brass accents will be the perfect canvas for chilly season accents.
I've been doing a bit of shopping - nothing too crazy - and have sourced some budget-friendly fall items that I've slowly started to add into my collection of seasonal decor. Now just to wait for the right moment to bring them out.
