Fourth of July Treats

in, Cooking Holidays
fourth of july

Mix up your Fourth of July meal with some healthy and tasty alternatives to hamburgers and hot dogs (although there is nothing wrong with a well-grilled hamburger!)

Main

Grilled Salmon Tacos

So tacos may not be THE most patriotic dish, but they are amazing, and a much healthier alternative to hamburger buns. I found this recipe for grilled salmon tacos on the blog, Cooking Classy, and I knew I had to try it! Don’t they just look delicious!

  3. 1/4 red onion
  4. Fresh cilantro
  5. Fresh lime
  6. Salt and Pepper

  1. Chunk up the mango, pepper, onion and combine in a bowl
  2. Finely chop cilantro and add to ingredients bowl
  3. Add 1-2 teaspoons of freshly squeezed lime juice
  4. Mix well
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste
  6. Serve

Drinks

Green Tea/Lemonade

I actually discovered this drink at Starbucks last summer and it’s now my go-to for a refreshing summer drink that’s loaded with the good stuff found in green tea. I started making it at home and never looked back.

What You’ll Need

  1. Glass pitcher
  2. Tea Kettle
  3. Lemonade (buy it pre-made or make your own)
  4. Green tea bags (preferably organic)

How To Make:

  1. Boil water
  2. Steep 4-5 green tea bags in the water for about 5 minutes
  3. Chill green tea
  4. Mix about half and half of the chilled green tea with your lemonade
  5. Add ice
  6. Serve

Desserts

Make Your Own Popsicles

What You’ll Need:

  1. A freezer
  2. Juice (any kind will do!)
  3. Popsicle molds – find them here

How To Make:

  1. Pour the juice into the mold
  2. Let sit in the freezer for 2-3 hours (overnight is best) and voila, popsicles!

Enjoy your Independence Day whatever you may be eating!
