We wanted to share a little something different with you today. In January the Some Pretty Thing team had the great pleasure of adding a new team member – our video intern Brooke! She’s in the process of creating some amazing content for a special new project (coming soon!) and I wanted to have her introduce herself. So without further ado. . .
Hi guys! My name is Brooke Smith and I’m from Anderson, SC. I know my name may seem ordinary but I feel like I was born to do extraordinary things (see what I did there). I’m from a small town and I’m itching to get out and see what this world has for me. I’m super curious. How much does the Leaning Tower of Pisa actually lean? The Northern Lights aren’t that colorful, are they? Is New York really the city that never sleeps?
What are your passions outside of school and work?
Outside of school and work, I love anything that has to do with traveling, dogs, and Harry Styles (sorry, that was my high school self showing through). I love being spontaneous and going anywhere my car will take me. Ironically, I have never been on a plane – and I’m 22 years old! But one day, I hope to be able to travel to so many places and make videos of my adventures (sounds like a dream, right?!). If anyone wants to take me along on their next vacation I’ll make a pretty cool video for you, for free of course 😉. In all seriousness, I never knew what I wanted to do, even after my first two years at college. It was something that I struggled with because I have always been known as “the creative one” “the carefree friend.” How could I turn that into a job I would love to do for the rest of my life? So when I learned about the world of videos and editing, I thought to myself “I could do that. I could show my life through a lens and have a pretty fun beat in the background, so why not?”
What are your career aspirations?
This kinda goes hand-in-hand with what I’m passionate about. My biggest goal in life is to start my own videography business. I love telling stories and I love being able to share those stories set to music. Here’s a little snippet of how my mind works: Let’s say your friends called you and wanted to have a relaxing day at the park – if parks aren’t your thing *insert your favorite hobby* Well, in my mind, all I see is, “okay but the way the light is hitting that tree, that would be such a cool shot.” Or “what about that man sitting all by himself, I bet he something interesting to tell” “This would be so much cooler as a montage.” (I’m fun to be around, I promise).
What inspires you? And how do you go about finding inspiration?
People. People and their stories inspire me. A professor at college always told me that “everyone has a story” and I have to be able to find out what that is. I think the best way to find inspiration is to be curious and to get out of your comfort zone. It’s hard to find inspiration if you never get out. And trust me, I know it’s scary, but I have never regretted doing something I was unsure of. If anything, I have a funny story at the end of the night. Also, surround yourself with people that push you to do what you love. They might not understand it but I find myself wanting to get out and do what I love when I am around people that believe in me.
What’s your favorite coffee drink?
I love creamer with a little bit of coffee. Does that count? I would say anything hazelnut or caramel. You can find me in the summer drinking caramel iced lattes. And in the winter, anything hot will do – the cold and I don’t get along very well.
What’s your favorite thing to do in Greenville?
This might sound simple, but me and my friends love going out and trying all the restaurants and coffee shops that Greenville has to offer (mostly the food though let’s be real.) Greenville has so many unique places to eat and downtown is the cutest place to be to try that out. But, I am always down to do anything and I have never done something in Greenville that I haven’t liked – except school, school and 8 am classes. . .
