From Maine to Florida, I’ve visited my fair share of beaches on the East Coast. It’s hard to imagine a vacation is complete without stopping off at some large body of water. So when we visited Charleston a few weeks ago and found out our Airbnb was in Mt Pleasant and just a 7-minute drive from Sullivan’s Island we jumped at the chance to visit on Sunday morning.

I’ve visited Folly Beach before, but Sullivan’s Island was a new one for me and we found it so relaxing and equally charming. After capturing some photos on sand dunes for the brand Taste Drink Go and their line of Turkish towels, we set off down the beach wandering and watching the people – mostly locals – and their dogs. I’m a dog lover at heart and it made me so happy to see all the pups off of their leashes enjoying the water and sand and sun as much as their owners.

If you’re ever in the Charleston area and are looking for a quiet place to kick back and enjoy some nature therapy I would suggest Sullivan’s Island over Folly Beach. It’s lined with beautiful homes available for rent and just one street up there’s a little town with what looked to be restaurants and shops that I can’t wait to check out the next time we go back!

If you’re just going for the morning or the day parking is free along the side streets (something we didn’t know until we got there) and the public beach access points are well spaced out and easy to find.

Becuase it was still February, I opted for a little bit of warmth in my outfit – jeans and a beautiful lace and cotton top from Akemi + Kin that I now cannot find anywhere online. While blue and white is one of my favorite color combinations, it can be hard to pull off on a beach. If you’re doing engagement or senior photos with a beach landscape, try to get the majority of your photos in an area with color and texture variation in order to keep you from blending into the background.

I’d love to know what your favorite coastal town is!
