Thank you to Jones Road Beauty for sending me the products to test for this post. I was under no obligation to post any content. All opinions are my own.
Does anyone else remember when Jones Road went viral on TikTok? I'm not on the platform anymore but I do remember seeing the mixed reviews everywhere. My ultimate test for a product is truly the ingredients in the product - are they "clean", do they use dyes, harsh fragrances, even talc in the formulation. . . So needless to say when Jones Road Beauty reached out and offered to send me some products to try I was curious.
The entire Jones Road collection is designed to provide a clean girl, no makeup makeup look for every skin type. Since a minimal makeup look is about the only thing I know how to create (I am absolutely not a makeup artist) I'm always on the lookout for products that act more like skincare than makeup and work for me no matter how long I'm spending on my routine.
So this is my review of the Jones Road Beauty line and my minimal, no makeup makeup look:
Before Makeup
My skin type definitely errs on the dry side no matter the type of weather. I tend to get some dry patches on my chin and forehead if I'm not rigorous in my moisturizing routine. This product has been a game changer though for keeping my skin hydrated.
Teenage acne has left my skin with some texture and scars but ones that I've been able to heal and treat with gentle, effective products over time.
Basically I have normal skin. Just skin like everyone else. A fact that has taken me about 15 years to come to grips with. Thank goodness for growth.
The Jones Road Beauty Products Review
- Miracle Balm (Golden Hour) – more of a skincare product than a makeup product, the Miracle Balm is probably the most talked about product in the Jones Road Beauty arsenal and that's because there is truly nothing like it on the market. Use it on its own for a bit of dew and shimmer on your skin or wear it as a highlighter or moisturizer over your foundation.
- What The Foundation ( Beige) – a "tinted moisture balm meets traditional foundation" according to the Jones Road team. It's filled with beautiful and skin-improving ingredients like Jojoba Oil so it's extremely moisturizing but also provides a buildable coverage and leaves your skin glowing. It comes in 12 unique shades for most skin colors and types.
- The Mascara ( Pitch Black) – this is the product I had the least amount of expectations for and has ended up being one of my favorites. It's the wand on this that makes it product a valuable one. The shape and curve of the wand creates a beautiful lash structure and length.
- Tinted Face Powder ( Rose) – initially I thought I was ordered a powder blush, but this product actually comes in multiple shades of browns, pinks, neutrals, etc. I do use it as a top coat blush from time to time but it really is just a lightweight face powder that you can use for a sun kissed face and if you find yourself a bit too shiny.
- Just A Sec Eyeshadow (Cool Taupe) – I love a good eyeshadow, especially one you can use as a highlighter, eyeliner, etc. The biggest thing for me is that it's made without talc - which if you didn't know is present in many powder products and is a known carcinogen.
My Clean Girl Jones Road Makeup Routine
What the Foundation
My Color: Beige
I start my no makeup makeup look with this product. Because of the unique formulation of part balm/part moisturizer/part foundation, it's so easy to apply and blend.
I just use my fingers to apply like I would any other tinted moisturizer or foundation. The blend is always so seamless and beautiful.
Some days I just apply this on top of my skincare and call it a day as far as my makeup goes. Other days I'll do some building and layer with some concealer, bronzer, powder, and mascara.
Ultimately, I just like that this product evens out my skin tone and provides extra hydration so it doesn't stick to the dry spots of my skin.
To Note: the texture is definitely one I had to get used to in the pot. It's thicker than an average tinted moisturizer and mine had some small clumps at the top. Jones Road does say that due to the intentional lack of stabilizers and chemicals the texture of the product might vary.
Miracle Balm
Color: Golden Hour
Full disclosure: this is the product that I'm still getting used to using and applying. It's unlike any makeup or skincare product that I've ever used and truly is more like a balm than a coverage product.
But I will say if I'm really feeling a no makeup makeup look and I have my sunscreen all soaked in, this product for a day in the sun or garden is perfection. I feel like it nourishes my skin, provides glow and coverage while feeling like air on my skin.
Most days I use it over my foundation to give a bit of highlight on my cheekbones and brow bone. Again, I'm still experimenting how to use this to its full potential but it's going to be a staple in my makeup bag I can already tell.
To Note: My biggest tip is to break the "surface" of the product when you're using it to really get into the depth of color and shimmer.
The Mascara
Color: Pitch Black
I don't know about you but mascara is a pivotal product for me to use in my no makeup makeup look if I want to still look awake. I don't always mascara but just a swipe can make my naturally downturned eyes look brighter and more alert.
It's no surprise that once again many mascaras on the market are filled with nasty ingredients we shouldn't be putting close to our eyes, so clean mascara that has a beautiful formulation like the Jones Road one is a welcome product in my clean makeup collection.
Not only is well constructed, it also works like a dream. The wand is chunky which I traditionally don't love, but this one doesn't leave clumps or uneven product distribution, it's perfect for multiple layers or just a quick swipe for a causal day.
Tinted Face Powder
Color: Rose
I use to be a dedicated Clinique face powder fan - it's always nice to have a product on hand to cut down on unwanted shine on a hot summer day - but again talc is ever present in those powder products so the savior of the day is the Tinted Face Powder from Jones Road Beauty.
I'll use this product especially if I'm just going in with the Miracle Balm and calling it a day. Like I mentioned earlier it's not so much a blush, but depending on what color you choose from the range it might act more like a subtle blush or bronzer while tamping down the excess shine on your t-zone.
Again, I am certainly not a makeup expert but I do know heavy makeup doesn't work on my skin and indeed with a health-conscious lifestyle in place I'm always on the lookout for products that will help lower my toxic load instead of contributing to it. If you're on the hunt for products that will give you that 'lit from within' glow or just ones to help you cut back on time spent on your makeup routine, the Jones Road Beauty products do live up to their hype.
If you're looking for one product to try from the range I would suggest The Foundation first and then take a dive into the Miracle Balm world, but also know that what works well for me, may not work the same for you.
