With the heat of the summer in full blast I’ve been craving light fabrics, perfect neutrals, and clothes that move with me instead of stick to my body. For most of my younger years I followed trends and took the word of retailers that shorts and t-shirts were the uniform of summer.
While there’s still nothing like a pair of cut-offs and simple t-shirt to get you through the dog days of summer, I’ve needed some classic, sophisticated outfits in my wardrobe for simple occasions like catch-up dinners with friends, speaking engagements, and yes, photoshoots.
It’s no surprise that my go-to look has been the perfect pair of crisp, wide-legged pants, a silky top and trusty gold accessories.
Let’s start with the accessories, shall we?
I’ve talked about the ethical and sustainable jewelry company AU-Rate before on the blog and because I wear their pieces daily, I’m going to talk about them again.
My current go-tos are perfectly dainty rings from their yellow gold collection – yes, that’s right I only wear yellow gold – and a simple necklace that makes a statement all on it’s own. Perfect details make all the difference and no one does jewelry details as well as AU-Rate.
My outfit is just as simple: high-waisted, wide-legged pants that move and breathe but don’t overwhelm my petite frame and a lightweight tank.
The pants are another score from my very favorite online retailer Chicwish. I’ve mentioned them before and they’re worth another shout out because the selection of quality and price-conscious clothing is astounding. I have yet to get a piece from them I didn’t love and these pants are no exception.
I’m 5’1″ on a good day and was fully expecting to take these pants to my tailor (hi, mom) but they ended up being the perfect length with or without heels. The material is a linen blend, so still lightweight and summer appropriate just without all the wrinkles.
Pairing the pants with a neutral top was a no-brainer for me but the ensemble would look just as good with a splash of color if that’s your thing.
Banana Republic always tends to be my go-to if I need to stock up on simple, classic summer tanks because they always seem to have just the right blend of casual and elegant construction.
This season’s picks are really quite lovely and although my top was from 2 seasons ago, this year’s styles are just as beautiful.
And because it’s summer I just never tend to leave home without a hat. Sun hat, baseball hat…visor… just kidding… and my favorite place to shop for inexpensive summer hats is hands down San Diego Hat Company.
For a look that’s as low-stress as floating in a pool on a unicorn float, sipping lemonade, try the pairing of neutrals with your favorite dainty gold jewelry. It’s timeless and guaranteed to keep you cool all summer long.
