HOT TAKE: the most classic piece in your fall wardrobe is a tan trench coat.
Fewer items are more versatile or timeless in both style and wearability. From dresses to shorts, tan trench coats have been around for decades in roughly the same style, shape, structure, and hue. Some variations have come and gone - pastel shades of blue and yellow, longline styles that sweep the ground – but forever the knee-length coat has reigned outside of the limits of fashion week runways and time.
Today's post is going to cover four different ways to style this classic piece and my favorite places to shop for this style.
Outfit One: The Striped Chic
A cozy and casual outfit that is both easy to throw on and easy to wear all day long, all you need is a few basic, quality pieces.
- a good stripe shirt
- a pair of dark or black denim
- white leather tennis shoes
- tan trench coat
If you're going for a classic look here, avoid trendy styles of denim like ripped knees or acid washes. A striped shirt is a must have for a classic, minimal wardrobe, and you top it all off with the hero piece - the tan trench coat.
Outfit 2: Parisian with a Twist
Not a new look by any means, this outfit consists of a white tee, black jeans and silk scarf to add a bit of intrigue.
If you're not for a silk scarf around your neck tie it in your hair, around your purse, or around your waist.
Outfit 3: Workwear Appropriate
With little to no effort you can be appropriately dressed and ready for a day in the office during the unpredictable fall weather. The building blocks of this outfit consist of a crisp white button down shirt, black denim, low heeled booties, and the trench coat.
Wear your hair in a low bun and add a hat if it's weather or event appropriate.
Outfit 4: Dressed to the Nines
Never boring or basic, a tan trench thrown over a black dress is truly the epitome of classic. Pair it with a good pair of black heeled boots - either ankle or knee length - and you have yourself a truly timeless outfit.
If there's one thing I have learned is that a classic black dress will never go out of style and a tan trench overtop takes it the extra mile.
