When it comes to my wardrobe "Uncomplicated" is my word for Fall/Winter 2021. It is my favorite season for dressing but I've found myself recently getting caught up in flashy fashion trends that gain a lot of views on TikTok but isn't sustainable for my lifestyle and wardrobe.
Pairing it back, sticking to the basics, finding the holes in my closet and choosing uncomplicated, beautiful pieces to fill them has been my mission over the last 3-4 weeks. In particular, I found - after a recent closet clear out - that I needed four very specific pieces for my wardrobe to round it out. I wanted two mid-weight, non-cardigan sweaters, a pair of hiking/sturdy boots, and a mid-weight rain jacket.
With a little searching I found those pieces and when they showed up on my doorstep they were exactly what I had been looking for.
So without further ado:
The Four Pieces I Added to My Fall Capsule Wardrobe
Sezane Leontine Sweater
Part of Sezane's Essentials collection after selling out so many times over the past year, the Leontine sweater is a mid-weight (could be worn with shorts in warmer temps) sweater in a beautiful navy stripe/brown stripe/or solid brown.
It's a classic, boxy fit with beautiful button details down the front. I've seen this sweater paired with everything from dresses to shorts, trousers to denim and it has that effortless Parisian look about it.
How I'm Styling This:
- With dark denim and chelsea boots on a crisp autumn day
- Over a ribbed midi dress with heeled boots for a date night
- With dark brown shorts for the early September warmth
Alex Mill Button-Back Crewneck Sweater
What's not to love about Alex Mill? Their timeless designs and impeccable quality is shown in every garment they make and the Button-Back is no exception.
Being a lover of olive green, that was my chosen color, but the options are plenty and the Golden Khaki also looks beautiful.
The fun thing about this particular sweater is you can wear it with the buttons running up the back or as a cardigan with the buttons in the front.
How I'm Styling It this Fall:
- Light wash denim and heeled ankle boots
- Black leggings and an oversized denim jacket
Penfield All Purpose Jacket
I needed a waterproof, hiking/rain coat for everyday wear and I was drawn to Penfield for their timeless styles. I found my jacket on ThredUp, but also found some great options on Poshmark.
The actual brand's website doesn't have any similar styles of jackets at the moment.
Alice + Whittles Weekend Boots
When I was looking for all purpose hiking/walking boots for Maine and the fall/winter Alice + Whittles kept popping up. Reading reviews had me hooked and when they arrived from Portugal they truly blew me away.
Never have I ever found a comfier boot. I can't wait to truly put them to the test in Maine.
