I love coming home.
Although I truly believe that home is where the heart is, home is also the place you put down roots, settle into routines, and improve to make beautiful in its own way. I didn’t realize this until becoming a homeowner and understanding that I am in fact a creature of habit.
Travel becomes so much sweeter when you know your bed is waiting for you and your pour over is ready to produce coffee exactly how you like it. I’ve come to realize that if I work to create a home that’s lovely it will be a safe haven for not just its daily residents but also visitors who want to experience our world.
We’ve yet to welcome guests into the Riverwood Cape Home, but this fall it will become a bit of a B&B with friends and family slotted to visit. Because we moved from a one bedroom apartment we had one bed – perfect for us, not so perfect for guests. So the hunt for a mattress, pillows, sheets, bed frames, etc. began.
Thank you to The Futon Shop for working with me on this campaign. Products were gifted for review but all opinions are my own.
I connected early on in the home buying process with a lovely brand – The Futon Shop – and when the time was right we picked out the items to make our guest room a cozy and comfortable place to stay.
But this collaboration was more than just some items to take pictures of. We researched all the bed and mattress options in order to offer guests the best experience (I believe I would have made a fantastic innkeeper in another life).
The Futon Shop’s mattress are entirely made in the USA and created with non-toxic, organic materials so you never have to worry about sleeping on chemicals.
Buying the mattress itself is also an excessively easy process – all done online and shipped directly to your door.
We completed the set with sheets and pillows that made me want to switch my own out for the new ones. The bed frame itself was not through The Futon Shop but we needed something to raise it up off the floor and Walmart came through with an inexpensive option that wasn’t too ugly and easy to assemble.
We have some “good for now” items in the room but it’s far from fully decorated. Long-term we’ll add lamps, furniture, a welcome basket for guests that stay, and other beautiful touches but for now we have a clean, soft bed for the out-of-towners.
So if you want to book your stay and try out the mattress for yourself we’re now accepting reservations
through Spring 2020.
And just in case you’re curious, I listed out the exact items below that we used in our guest bedroom and an idea of what we have our eye on to purchase later down the road.
