The Winter Edit With Wayfair

I’m teaming up with Wayfair to bring you The Winter Edit, a collection of advice, inspiration, and trends for the upcoming season.

Winter Decorating Q & A with Emily of Some Pretty Thing

Wayfair: What kinds of design projects are you working on this season? Do you find that design challenges shift from season to season?

Emily: My main focus has been taking stock of what I currently have and what holes I have both in my year-round decor and my Christmas decor. This is our second Christmas in our house and I feel like I have a good handle on what the space needs.

Wayfair: Are there any design trends or traditions you are loving right now?

Emily: I've been increasingly drawn to the simplicity of Scandinavian decor and design. Neutral, minimal, and cozy seem to be the words that spark so much joy.

Wayfair: Which color palettes are speaking to you this season?

Emily: No one can ever go wrong with neutrals. And for Christmas, those neutrals include green and gold for me!

Wayfair: What are a few ways people can spruce up their homes with holiday decor while on a budget?

Emily: Forage! Use the overgrowth from trees, bushes, and plants around your property. It's free and makes beautiful garlands.

Quick Tips for On-Point Holiday Decor

  • Pick a color scheme (white and gold, red and green, pink, colorful, silver and blue, etc.) and stick to it throughout the years.
  • If you don't want to spend the time and money to decorate the exterior of your house, simple electric window candles look beautiful and festive lit up at night.
  • Decorate your dining table with a beautiful runner, candles, and pine branches even if you're not hosting a big dinner this year.
  • Pillar candles make for beautiful decor. Set them around your fireplace, mantle, table, window sills, and counters.
